JOE BIDEN

Posted by highlysuspect on February 1, 2007 in politics, Will's articles |

A boatload of years ago I worked for a large home electronics chain, (anyone who can’t figure out which one, stand on your head), that piece of imformation is not important. What is important is this; we had an expression we used when someone in the company did or said something stupid, that expression was “He stepped on his own dick”. Now, why am I bringing this up? Yesterday Senator and Presidential candidate Joe Biden did this when he described fellow democratic Senator Barack Obama as “The first Mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.” This brought swift but mild criticism from the democratic party and the media.

Now, we have seen African-American males run for President before. Jesse Jackson, Alan Keyes, and Al Sharpton come to mind. I disagree with Sen. Biden’s statement about Sen Obama being the first “mainstream African-American candidate. I believe Mr. Keyes, and the Reverends Jackson and Sharpton, respectfully fit that bill as well. I would like an explanation of what his definition of “mainstream” is.

The statement made by Sen. Biden is sure to be labeled a rascist statement. But, is it? I watched a progam on CNN last night in which one of the members of the panel, Stephen A. Smith, from ESPN and host of the show “Quite Frankly” suggested that this statement was not necessarily rascist, but “racially insensitive”. He went on to explain that racial insensitivity is caused by ignorance as opposed to hatred. He is probably right. But should we take that chance when it comes to electing a President? Should the public allow ignorance to rule the day? I don’t believe so.

After reading this statement and considering the other distinquished African-Americans that have run for President, I can’t help thinking they should be offended by Biden’s remarks. By reading Sen. Obama’s remarks, he was certainly offended on their behalf. In a lot respects, all of us should be.

The problem is the man does not relize why his remak was insensitive.
Bush is an idiot but nobody says hey that speech he made today sounded like he took some classes .
Or better yet no one has ever asked how do jewish doctors become doctors when they need to put out cash to pay for education.
no one should ever put races into a stero type that is the bottom line.
you can not stop people from thinking stupid ignorant things but someone
should demand public apologies for spoken slander.

  • Agreed. I also think Joe Biden needs a history course about African-Americans who have made significant contributions to our society and culture.

Jesse Jackson, George Washington Carver, Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, just to name a few.

Mymim, It’s funny because every time Bush speaks and it’s caught on tape, I try not to watch him but I make a point to watch the comedians at night time, kuz they are just about the only ones who will point out all the stupid things he says…………….Our President is a poor speaker, and I wish he would take classes….I guess it’s pretty much too late now anyway, he may not have a stupid filter, but at least he has a race filter. I think most of our Politicians whom do a lot of public speaking, need to practice their speeches and try not to stray from the speech….because it is becoming apparent that a lot of them do not have filters in their mouths. It is truley unfortunate though that ignorance and stupidity about race still exists in this country, because if it is still coming out of people mouths, just think of all the people whose brains are still filled with crap.

and btw what is the difference between racist and “racially insensitive”, get real these people need to lick each other hoo haas that bad that they can’t even call the guy out….they have to make it sound prettier, than what it really is, why does the media need to define something like this, i think his statement speaks for itself……I will call it just plain “racially ignorant”.

And for most Rich Politicians “Ignorance is Bliss”.

  • Amathy, you got the point I was trying to make. There is no difference between being a rascist and being ” raciallly insensitve”. They ar the same thing. People are not ignorant because they have to be, they’re ignorant because they WANT to be. The only saving grace with Joe Biden is that he won’t get any votes except his families.

Now, as for your opinion of Bush speaking in public, let me just say this, In the public speaking department, there is no doubt George W. Bush is not in the same league as Ronald Reagon or Bill Clinton. However, after 8 years of Clinton riding his thumbs, this country needed a strong leader more than it needed a great speaker.

  • amathy says:

‘this country needed a strong leader more than it needed a great speaker. ‘

Too bad we didn’t get either…….

  • highlysuspect says:

OUCH! That was shot! But, again I agree, in this respect, We needed a leader on domestic issues as well as foreign policy matters. Domesticallly, we got lip service, internationally we got strength as it purtains to ridding the world of Suddam Hussein. For a few years we got a war on terror, the problem is, that turned into a revenge thing against Suddan. not to mention a placating of Israel. We need strong leadership on all fronts foreign and domestic and a much more decisive war on terror. I disagree in this respect, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry would not have done anything to show the world that we will not be PUSHED AROUND! The American way of life must be preserved, and they wouldn’t have done anything. The focus on Irag has been too much. We need to strengthen our own economy and infrostructure. we simply need more from our leaders, and if they’re not willing to do the job, Republican or Democrat, we need to replace them with those who will do it.

  • mymim says:

    you have strong points will,
however bush is not proving anything.
yes we went ver there starting a war but now we stay there getting killed for what to show their soliders how to fight like us or to help them rebuild a country so that they can stand up and come after us all over again.
sorry I say nuke them don’t give them the chance to retaliate.
we need a leader who is willing to make that kind of stand that is showing we will not be pushed around.

  • amathy says:

If we had a leader who was dealing with a war on terror why aren’t they looking for Bin Laden?? What did Iraq and Suddam have to do with this? Not that Saddam was a good leader by any means. But why aren’t we going after the terrorist groups directly.
Mymim, we should ‘nuke’ these training camps for these terrorist groups, we have videos of these camps so someone knows where they are. But I would like a leader to put some stability into our lives instead of another country.
I want to live in a country where I am not afraid to walk out my door. Scranton is trying to revitilize the City which I am 100% for, this city needs a boost! Tear down all the condemned buildings and houses, please do. But, in turn we have less cops on the streets. Now i live in a neighborhood that was once crime free, and people are being robbed, beaten, raped, even killed. Most people who are doing these things are on drugs looking for drug money. It’s really strange when you hear that drug dealers were rounded up just down the street. We need some federal money for cities like ours so we can revitalize and keep up with the crime at the same time.
Our country needs to get the drugs off the streets, so there’s less crime. Our country needs to make sure that its citizens have health insurance. Our country needs to make sure we are educated in so many areas.
Look at what obesity alone is doing to our country, and what the lack of health education is doing to our health care system.
My point is that we need a leader who puts our money into helping this country, clean up this country, educate this country.
There are so many industries, Science, Medicine and many more , where educated people from around the world are coming here because we don’t have the right people for these jobs.
I don’t think we should ignore all these countries that need our help, but WE as a country need help!
I really would like a leader that wants to lead the USA to success and stability! And I do not think George W Bush has done this, but I really hope our next Leader can do this for our country, I don’t care what party he represents. Sorry for rambling, It started out short, and I was interrupted often.

  • highlysuspect says:

I think all of us agree on the strong leader point. This country needs to deal with domestic issues before foreign ones.

  • mymim says:

    way to go Amy,
you are on a roll we really need to fix our messed up country.
with all the poverty ,crime and health issues where is the help we need.
do you see iraq or any other country running to help .
we need to band together and safe the usa not planet earth as far as i know each country has their own leader so what is it they do if we are expected to fix all their problems.
Iknow they just get a picture on thier currancy…yeah that must be it.

  • shortbus says:

Yeah, Biden is a piece of work alright. But do remember that he is a hometown boy, born right there in the Electric City. He’s also a grad of Syracuse Law, my alma mater. And I do wonder if he’ll drop out of the prez race with brain aneurysms this time too.
