DON IMUS

Posted by highlysuspect on April 11, 2007 in politics, Will's articles |

Don Imus is considered to be the original “SHOCK JOCK”. He paved the way for people like Howard Stern. Mr Imus recently refered to the Rutgers Womens Basketball Team as “Nappy-headed hos”. His explanation for this idiocy is that his radio show is a comedy show and it was a joke. I hate to tell him this, but, there isn’t anything funny about the comment. In fact, Don Imus himself is not funny. I’ve never been a fan and I never will be a fan. Howard Stern is funny. Hell, Howard K. Stern is funnier than Imus. Neil Bortz, who is considered more of a political commentator is funnier. There is a radio show from Atlanta Called Two Live Stus that is a hell of a lot funnier than Don Imus! In fact, I can’t wait to go to Atlanta next month and catch a show or two! Its been about six months, I’m seriously jonesin for it. Closer to home, (NEPA) we have the Daniels and Webster show, again, funnier than Imus!

Now, he was suspended fo two weeks. Is the punishment enough? Probably not. I would have sat him down for a month and every eight minutes I would have someone go Pimp-slap him just for being a MORON.

I don’t care for the guy either, but why was he punished? Ever listen to a rap song? Oh wait, yeah I just answered my own question…he was punished for calling those girls nappy headed hos because he isn’t black enough to do so. Meh

This is a litle note to tell everyone that this post will be publshed in the next few days in he Scranton Times editorial section.

Jenn, for the record, we all do seem to be a little over sensitive to what other people say.  I’m just not a fan of Don Imus.  He’s not funny.  Maybe its me. I don’t know.

I have never listened to Imus and never plan to. And by no means like his comment, or as Jen pointed out the comments that a lot of rappers leave for women in their songs, I think his comment was an insult to all women of every race. That said, he is a Shock Jock, that’s what he is paid to do, just like Howard Stern. Unfortunately, some people enjoy listening to him, and if his corporate sponsors keep pulling out, less and less people will be allowed to do so, I really do not care. If you don’t want to hear him speak turn the channel. We do still have freedom of speech, whether we agree or disagree with what anyone else has to say. I am glad the public is punishing him with their freedom of speech, because that is a lot more humiliating than 2 weeks off of work. If we try to silence him, then someone will try to silence the rappers, and then where do we draw the line. My point is, If you don’t like it, don’t listen to it, use your freedom the same way he is.

he’s being punished to appease the Coalition of Black Journalists. Who in my opinion, should not be involved in any kind of censorship of him. We’re both familiar with what the media has a nasty habit of doing. Unfortunately, they no longer have to remain impartial. They believe they have the right to be judge, jury and executioner. Its ridiculous.

I agree with Jen if he was a black comedian or talk show host shock jock this would not evan be an isssue.
They call themselves whatever they want and it’s ok but if we use any of the same phrases no matter in what content it is called a racial slur.
Freedom of speach is freedom of speech we can not pick and choose who can speak their minds and who we should slap on the wrist for speaking out of term.

  • highlysuspect says:

Well put by both of you. I ain’t done on this topic.

  • Kathy says:

good because we can go on forever with this one.
first of all women are use to being put down by men and they should not even have justified his comment with any type of response that shows it got to them.
I would be more upset at always being refered to as ho’s by my own kind that seems to show a lot of respect on their behalf don’t ya think.
and for the record black men call white women ho’s all the time.

  • highlysuspect says:

very true. again, America, nation of double standards!

  • amathy says:

Kathy, it’s not necessarily black men that call women ho’s, because trust me I have know white men who do the same, and a lot of white men who use the “N” word also, and unfortunatly a lot of women who call each other ho’s, and white women who use the “N” word. My husband has never called you a ho, let me know if he did I will kick his ass for you. And I think in general black white hispanic, man woman, whatever, that should be our own kind, human kind, should not tolerate the treatment of women in this matter! We think the middle east is horrible for degrading their women this is just another way for men to degrade women. And there are a lot of black people who are offended by anyone using that kind of language toward women, and there are also a lot of black people who are offended by anyone black white, purple for using the “N” word, as they should be.

I think if we as a human kind, not black white purple, should start looking at each other as a human kind, not as colors and race, and treating each other as so,getting rid of every double standard, we may have less problems in the world, but I guess that’s something that’s a long way away.

  • highlysuspect says:

I agree Amy, women in general should be treated with more respect and dignity than they are. ESPECIALLY in this country! I’ve been an advocate of that for as long as I can remember and I’ve always treated women with the utmost respect.

As far as the the Islamic culture treats women, It has been that way for centuries, it is their way. Do we have the right to go over there and tell them their wrong?

Kind of an interesting question, isn’t it?

  • amathy says:

We don’t have the right to tell another country or culture what’s right and wrong because a lot the people in Islamic cultures do not know any better, but in this country we do know better. Even Imus’s wife is mad about what he said, I heard a clip of her saying that people were sending hate mail to the rutgers womens basketball team, and she said, please send that hate mail to my husband, he’s the one who deserves it, something to that affect. I am glad his wife isn’t saying stop picking on him, but rather the opposite, good for her!!!

  • highlysuspect says:

Imus’s wife; SMART LADY! and she is absolutely right.

  • Kathy says:

Nope amys edge never called me a ho and wait he’s not white oh my god i didn’t know………
I just thought he had an awesome tan…..tee hee.
If I sounded offensive I am sorry I don’t have a racial bone in my body except for Canadians with coupons…….
Bottom line women are not ho’s it’s not a compliment just like the lovley ”c”word we do not call men pimps and dicks and expect to let it blow over with out a remark from them so why she we put up with it…..

  • highlysuspect says:

Right, callin “bitches” hoes, is down right disrespectful!

All humor aside, You’ve heard me refer to women as chicks, babes, honeys, hotties, and probably a few others. Its not meant to be disrespectful, but, is it? I’ve also heard You, Jenn, and Amy as well as various other women use the same terms. Are we being disrespectful, or is it acceptable? Simply because there is a lack of a derogotory nature?

  • amathy says:

If you are calling a friend a derogatory name in good fun, and as a joke and the other friend, “gets” it, i guess it’s acceptable because we know how the other will take it. And I do know some real life Ho’s, maybe they don’t get paid for it but you get my drift(maybe even see some come through the hotel now and then), and yeah when they walk away I may make a derogatory comment toward them, and it is probably not appropriate. But Calling a stranger or aquaintance to their face Honey, babe, Ho, etc…. that to me is not acceptable.

  • highlysuspect says:

Fair enough. You will notice I refer to you as, (no, I wasn’t going to say pain in the ass), Amy. Kathy as Kathy. My relationship with Jenn is different that that. It has evolved into something beyond that.
