MY BROTHER IS AN OBAMA SUPPORTER!

Posted by highlysuspect on October 16, 2008 in politics, Will's articles |

Barack Obama recently gave this response to a plumber who asked him if his tax plan would increase his taxes: “It’s not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too,” Obama responded. “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

For arguments sake, let us analyze this response this way. My brother, is one of only a handful of people who does what he does, makes x amount of money a year. He pays his income tax, roughly 30%, a fair share, I might add. Obama wants to increase that percentage by whatever, then, pour that money into some government run social program so someone without the skills and the drive my brother has, can climb the economic scale. Put in more basic terms, someone making $100,000 a year, pays $30,000 in taxes now; under Obama’s plan he pays, for arguments sake, $40,000 a year in taxes. That extra money is then ” redistributed ” to people who have taken the easy way out by relying on the Government to take care of them.

Here is what I want my brother to think about: You work hard for your paycheck. Shouldn’t it be your choice what you do with your money? Do you really want the Government to take your hard earned dollars and give them to some random person who has spent half his life on the dole because he doesn’t have the ambition to succeed like you did?

I’m all for spreading the wealth, for all of you out there who want to do it, more power to you. I, myself have been known to donate money to the Humane Society when I have it to give. I give generously to people at work who are beset by tragedy. There are millions of worthwhile charities in this country and around the world. Pick one. The U. S. Government does not need your charity. Trust me.

Dude, what Kool-aid you drinking? This piece just spreads more of the lying crap the republicans have been spreading. The real story behind all this tax stuff is best summarized at http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/obamas_welfare.html and includes a lot of good links.

Let me tell you just how this works. Every year for the past twenty or so I’ve made more money than the year before. Every year I’ve paid more in state and federal taxes. I’ve watched the whole tax process get a lot more complicated if you itemize deductions, and you do need to itemize or else you’re just giving too much to the feds. The Bush ‘tax cuts’ had little real impact on my tax bill, though it did make the form longer. Oh, did I mention that the withholding for Social Security went up when the tax cut came in, so my take home pay went down. I don’t believe either candidate is going to significantly reduce my taxes, I actually think taxes will go up no matter who wins.

For what it’s worth my withholding rate, including fed, state, and soc sec taxes is and has always been around 28%. Then every spring I get a nice little refund check from the state and fed that gives me back a few points of that withholding. I’d rather just have the withholding rate reduced, but nobodies talking about that.

As for choice, once the money is in the feds hands, I have no choice. And I’d rather have it spread it around this country than used to bomb some jerk water non-country into dust.

You know me, i prefer my kool-aid with just a dash of hemlock. I’ll check out the link. We all know the term ” Tax cut ” is a misnomer, for lack of a better word. one goes down another goes up, thats the way the system really works. sometimes the numbers balance each other out sometimes they don’t.

Here is the deal with the money. I have no problem with my tax dollars being spread around the country. The problem is it doesn’t work like that. The last time whatever committee doled out funds, some states didn’t get any. Thats wrong. It is directly related to whichever political party is running the show. and its wrong regardless of which party it is.

One more thing, we haven’t bombed another country into dust since world war two. If bush 41 had spent more time bombing Irag the first time instead of masterbating, we would not be over there now. I agree that money would be better spent in this country, rather than over there. We achieved our objective. We should have left and sold weapons to all parties and let them fight it out. And, Just one more parting shot, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan should have taken care of Iran 30 years ago. Both are to blame for that mess.
