COLON POWELL

“Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less.”- Retired General Colon Powell.

Let us take a moment to digest that statement. Done? Its a damn good thing I read it before I had lunch. If it had been after, I would have spewed chunks of tuna, celery, and tomato all over my brother’s office! We want more government in our lives?! Not this man, General! Apparently, Powell just doesn’t get what the founders had in mind when they wrote the constitution! I’m not going to bore you all with a lecture about that. We all know what they had in mind. We need go no further that the oath of office the President of the United States of America swears to before he takes office: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” There is no greater oath, nor is there an oath with such a daunting responsibility to it, in the world, including the oath Powell took when he entered the military. I know, I took that same oath some 26 years ago.

Speaking for myself, I want the government to protect our great country from foreign invasion, that includes the illegal entry of Mexicans and Canadians into our country via our southern and northern borders respectfully. . I want it to protect the rights granted to me by the constitution. I want it to adhere to the constitution. It was written the way it was for a reason.

Now, to be fair, General Powell is entitled to his opinion, regardless of how ridiculous it is or sounds. He is also entitled to express his opinion. To take away those rights erodes the very foundation of what we are fighting for in this country and abroad. That sends a more dangerous message than his words ever could.

What concerns me about his statement is its being made by a retired military leader. He is advocating bigger government and government intrusion. That is a dangerous precedent in America. This country needs leaders who will serve the people of this country, leaders who will strive to protect our rights and freedoms granted by our constitution, and leaders who will return this country to prosperity and greatness. We do not need people like Colon Powell, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and a host of others. They will destroy our nation. They will turn us into a clone of our European counterparts. They will destroy our uniqueness in the world, the very core of what makes America great!
