Therapeutic riding center sends horse to slaughter auction!

Posted by kayceecowgirl on June 8, 2007 in politics, Wildlife conservation |

Time was up for a failed riding horse at Equi-librium, a therapeutic riding center in the Poconos, PA. Apparently, he bucked off a couple of handicapped kids in the last several months, and the stable was concerned about liability issues. All day yesterday afternoon was devoted to locating this horse handicapped charity dumped and now slaughter-bound horse. Apparently, staff members of the 501c3, nonprofit were trying for months to place this horse, when suddenly, it was determined this weekend by Equi-librium’s board of directors that the horse had to make them the money back that they put into him since they bought him, tried him and he didn’t work out. He was sent to New Holland early Monday morning.

We were initially told by a fellow horse rescuer that Josh McKay bought the horse. But upon attending the “after sale” at around 5:00 PM we were told by another killer buyer that the horse definitely went to horse killer Frank Carper, who bought him at the beginning of the sale and left early with his load. Carper has a Wed night horse slaughter sale in Cranberry, NJ called Camelot Auction. His plan is to filter the horse through that sale. Usable horses are marked #1, and killer horses are marked #10. Since this horse was described by Equi-librium to New Holland as a “bucking bronco,” and the poor guy is not a spring chicken either, it seems likely that he will be tagged a ten. We called Carper twice and did not get a return call from him. The horse is between 11 and 14 years old and has a distinct rip inside his ear. He is a bay quarterhorse. Equi-librium told the auctioneer to say, “This horse is not fit for a child.”

Yesterday’s cake. Tomorrow’s horseburger. Equi-librium is obviously giving every chance in the book to mentally and physically challenged children. But there are no second chances here for a failed senior riding horse with an unsightly ripped ear. Only the profit made from a New Holland quick sale and a USDA tag ticket to the slaughterhouse.

  • This is not a responsible way of treating an animal that is considered a bibical animal. Nor that the horse had comitted to serving humans for years. There are other places this horse could be sunt to like a retirement home or a to a experenced horseman that trail rides thru the weekends with family and friends. Ive seen many horses buck before and if you cant handle that you cant handle any problems that may arrive in your life. You might as well be a kkk member that rules out any race that is not carcasin. These Horse slaughter plants promote abuse, neglect, and fear toward the animals tagged doom. USDA has a bad rape for allowing this to happen. Texas Plants are now closed and soon the last plant in our state of Illinois will be soon as well. At least until we can exposed all the Sellouts like the Horseman Concil of Illinois that promotes slaughter (HCI) and others that profit off slaughter like AQHA, APHA, and (TSWCRS) Texas southwestern cattle raisers assocation. which collects $300 per horse slaughtered at the plants. When Money is to be made the horse always loses and this clearly stats the situation. Sincerely Professional Horseman Thomas Lee Trevino

I would question anyone sending their children to this place given they way they treat their animals.
