HR 503 and S. 311… How you can help!

Dear friends,

I would like to take a moment to ask each of you to please take additional
time during the course of the next several weeks to do some extra work in
gaining Congressional support for the AHSPA. There are two ways that you can help…

1.) From July 28th-July 30th the annual animal welfare conference will be
taking place in Washington, DC which will culminate in a massive grassroots
“Lobby Day” on Monday July 30th. If at all possible we urge you to attend, even if
you are only able to be there for a day or two of lobbying. One does not
necessarily need to attend the conference in order to participate in the Lobby Day.
I will post the links and info on the conference at the bottom of this
letter, as well as info on who to contact should you prefer to attend Lobby Day only.
If you are able to attend, please call your legislators DC office to set up
an appointment with either the members themselves or their legislative
assistant that is in charge of HR 503 or S. 311. It is very important that if at all
possible, you meet face-to-face with your member or their staff to discuss the
bills while you are in Washington DC.

2.) For those unable to attend the Washington, DC conference, taking action
at home is just as important. Throughout the entire month of August, Congress
will be on summer recess, and your legislators will be available for meetings
in their home (district) offices. Please contact the district office of your
US Congressman/ Congresswoman and both of your US Senators to schedule
appointments with them in order to discuss their possible support of HR 503 and S. 311.
Start requesting meetings now because their schedules fill up quickly. You
can attend alone or in groups. The more voters your legislator sees on this
issue the better. Obviously, if your member is already a cosponsor, an
appointment with them would not be necessary. To see if your members are already
cosponsors, please click on the links provided below.
