At the Republican debate on Thursday night, Sen. Marco Rubio had a nice line. “Bernie Sanders would make a great president,” he said. “…of Sweden.” The line got laughter and applause, its humor working on the idea that Sanders is a socialist who has no business in charge of the world’s largest capitalist economy.In other ways, though, it seems that Sweden is outpacing the United States when it comes to one specific area: that of migration. The country announced this week that it was getting ready to deport thousands of asylum-seeking refugees over the next few years. According to Interior Minister Anders Ygeman, Sweden intends to send as many as 80,000 asylum seekers packing.“The first step is to ensure voluntary returns,” Ygeman told a Swedish newspaper. “But if we don’t succeed, we need to have returns by coercion.”
