Donald Trump started his campaign with a message for everyone in the country to hear: Washington is hopelessly corrupt and only an outsider can fix what’s wrong with the system. That message has been blunted over the last fifteen months or so, but it remains the core of his campaign. On Monday night in Green Bay, Trump returned to one of his most important mission statements with a proposal that should send shivers down the spine of any establishment crony.“If we let the Clinton Cartel run this government, history will record that 2017 was the year America lost its independence. We will not let that happen,” Trump said. “It is time to drain the swamp in Washington, D.C. That is why I am proposing a package of ethics reforms to make our government honest once again.”
