ED "RENDELL US PENNYLESS"

Posted by highlysuspect on February 7, 2007 in politics, Will's articles |

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell unveiled his budget for the fiscal year beginning on July 1st.  Mr. Rendell has proposed a one percent increase in the state’s sales tax(6% to 7%).   He is also proposing a ten cent increase in the tax on a pack of cigarettes, and a fortyfive cent increase in the gas tax.

Mr. Rendell is planning to use a portion of the  increase in sales tax to cut property taxes for “non senior homeowners a year ahead of schedule.”   Now, my understanding was that the tax revenue from slot machine gambling was supposed to reduce property taxes.  I believe that is what the plan was when they were approved.  Did the gambling industry over estimate its revenue expectations or did Pennsylvanians get sold a bill of goods by our Governor?  We also have to realize, with an increase in the sales tax, Pennsylvanians will spend less money thereby decreasing tax revenue,  What will Gov. Rendell tax next to make up for this loss?

The ten cent increase in the cigarette tax is earmarked to “help extend subsidized health insurance to about 800,000 adults who lack coverage”.  I have a better idea.  How about we impose a luxury tax on the insurance companies everytime they raise premiums.  In the last year alone, my employer has seen an increase in premiums three times!  To his credit, he has not and will not pass that increase on to his employees.  He pays 92% and we pay 8%.  What we should do is  take that luxury tax and insure Pennsylvanians that do not have coverage.  In a small way, we make the insurance companies accountable.

The third proposal; a 45 cent increase in the gas tax.  On top of what we currently pay?!  That’s ludicris!  Our illustrious governor runs his mouth about the oil companies making record profits, so now, he plans on doing the same thing!  WHAT”S GOOD FOR THE GOOSE IS GOOD FOR THE GANDER,  I guess?  How many increase in the gas tax have Pennsylvanians endurred since ‘BIG ED” was elected?  How many more will there be before we wise up and say “NO MORE”.

Perhaps it is time for the people of Pennsylvania to push for a recall and remove Mr. Rendell from power.

Like I said this morning Wil,
We let this idiot come to Scranton Pa after all the damage he caused in Philly he turned that place into a getto and is slowly doing the same for our area.
He wants to claim raise this tax and that tax as his pocket gets bigger and nothing improves.
and why on things that have enormous cost to start with.
why not raise the price of paper towels or toilet paper .
my advice would be get rid of him.
I would love to see him or any other politican take a paycut to avoid all these new found reason to raise taxes.
could you imagine them not driving luxury cars and pulling up to you in a dodge dart or buick skylar.
or coming to work in sweat pants instaed of $3000 suits.
please thin your own wallet before you break all of Pennsylvanians.

The sad irony is, our governor, I believe about a year ago approved raises for ALL of our PUBLIC SERVANTS in Harrisburg; including himself. I don’t believe it had anything to do with the raise in the minimum wage. Next will be the air tax. He’ll have some schmo do a study on how many times the average pennsylvanian breaths a day, then impose a tax on it.

But I am sure the air tax would only apply to people who make less than 50,000 a year some how the rest will get out of it! This way the Rich can keep getting richer and Poor can keep getting poorer.

Did I fail to mention that? OOPS! my bad

We will give the poor folks of america a tax break for some made up clause just to try and throw them off our master plan .
what is the plan you ask to suck every penny out of middle and lower class americans but leave enough that we have to rely on them for more….

Gov. Rendell’s plan, lower property taxes, raise everything else, then, invent new taxes. This would be why I voted REPUBLICAN!
