DON IMUS, AMERICA'S DOUBLE STANDARD, and FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Posted by highlysuspect on April 12, 2007 in politics, Will's articles |

Don Imus made his fortune as a radio “shock jock” saying and doing whatever he wanted. Until a few days ago, when he called the Rutgers Womens basketball team ” nappy headed hoes”. He has since been suspended and fired from his television show.

Syndicated political columnist Ann Coulter made this comment, “I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word “faggot.” Miss Coulter was ridiculed and completely bashed by the media, and both polilical parties.

Rush Limbaugh was forced to resign his position with ESPN a few years ago because of a this statement: “The media has been very disirous that a black quarteback do well”.

Lets look at some other things.

John Kerry insulted the intelligence of our armed services people. For some reason, he was allowed by the MEDIA to pass it off as a poor attempt at a joke about the President!

Also, before Nancy Pelosi became speaker of the house, she called the PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES, (in essence) a war mongering nut case who needs psychological help!

Both are still U.S. SENATORS! Why weren’t they fired for their lack of respect and restraint?!

The Rev. Jesse Jackson refered to New York City under Mayor Ed Koch, as Hymietown. A slur against Jewish people in NY.

Al Sharpton has a reputation as being rascist against white people.

The Reverends Jackson and Sharpton are spearheading the fight to have Don Imus fired!

The constitution of the United States gives ALL Americans the right to free speech. Yes, there are limitations, most of those involve threats agiainst public officials. Why are certain individuals allowed to say whatever the hell they want, and others aren’t? To be sure, What Imus said was crass, and classless and unnecessary. But he had the right to say it. Especially if 2 U.S. Senators had the right to say what they said. The people calling for Imus to be fired have no business doing it. Rutgers University, Yea, every right to demand it. Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and the idiots in the media NO FREAKIN WAY!

I came down on Imus because I don’t think he’s funny. I didn’t laugh when I heard the comment. Humor is a relative thing. I’m sure some people found it amusing.
